Basic FunctionsThe Wire Mill Tooling Support Specialist is responsible for maintaining and preparing tooling components to ensure seamless operation within the Wire Mill. This includes proactive support for the 1st shift operations, managing tooling inventory, assisting with quality improvements, and minimizing downtime caused by tooling changeovers. Precision, communication, and organizational capabilities are essential.
Duties and Responsibilities- Provide daily tooling support for 1st shift to avoid delays caused by repackaging or unprepared tooling.
- Facilitate end-of-shift communication to clarify tooling needs for the next work order (W.O.).
- Own the tooling area: manage cleanliness, organization, and efficient layout.
- Conduct quality checks and ensure clean, contamination-free assemblies.
- Support efforts to meet high-precision standards (e.g., 0.0002" tolerance in certain processes).
- Address and resolve tooling backlog to maintain steady flow of W.O.s.
- Submit P.A.R.s (Purchase Acquisition Requests) independently and in a timely manner.
- Coordinate with production teams to track tooling needs and usage patterns.
- Reduce tooling wear by improving changeover processes and minimizing unnecessary repackaging.
- Comply with all quality policies, procedures, and safety standards.
- Listening and interpreting sounds are crucial for setting preload on mill tooling and sparking out in grinding operations. The environment is very noisy and open.
- Perform various other duties as assigned by the Manager.
- Mechanical aptitude and experience working with precision tooling.
- Understanding of machining processes and manufacturing systems.
- Strong verbal communication, listening, and organizational skills.
- Ability to work independently and demonstrate accountability.
- Proficiency in inventory control and area ownership.
- Attention to fine detail in high-tolerance environments.
- Ability to thrive in a fast-paced, noisy, and open production setting.
