Tutor
The CT State Community College is developing a pool of applicants for potential part-time tutoring positions. (Up to 17 hours per week). These positions are on continuous recruitment, and are filled on an as-needed basis, depending on specific department needs. You will only be contacted if there is a current need at the campus you indicated on your application and have met the qualifications/skills and experience that are required for the position.

PositionSummary
The Community College system offers two-year liberal arts degree programs as well as occupational and technical programs for a population with a wide range of academic and experiential preparation. In order to provide an instructional environment conducive to successful learning experiences for this wide array of students, the Colleges provide the support and help of the Tutor.
In the Academic Center of Excellence (ACE), the Tutor provides tutorial services to students, one on one or in small groups at a Community College. Incumbents provide this support in a specific learning unit or center such as science, technology, language arts or business administration. The tutor may also be involved in the set up, maintenance and operation of labs.
Responsibilities (Example ofJob Duties )
Under the direction of the Director of the Academic Center for Excellence (ACE) or other administrator, the Tutor is accountable for providing assistance to faculty and students in assigned academic areas through effective performance in these essential functional areas:
- Providing individual and group tutoring.
- Assisting students in carrying out assignments, including giving supplemental instruction in the academic discipline being applied.
- Overseeing and guiding assigned student workers in their assistance to students.
- Observing and providing information to faculty on student performance and on those requiring special faculty instruction.
- Proctoring student exams.
- Setting up, arranging and testing lab equipment, apparatus and materials.
- Adapting equipment and materials to specific learning objectives set by faculty.
- Planning and preparing equipment and materials for future lab sessions.
- Performing routine cleaning and maintenance of lab equipment.
- Shipping and receiving supplies and equipment.
- Observing standards of safety in the set-up, operation and disposal of lab supplies and equipment.
