Overview

Child Development Center Substitute Assistant Teacher – CT State Community College is developing a pool of applicants for potential part-time Child Development Center Substitute Assistant Teacher positions (up to 17 hours per week). Positions are on continuous recruitment and filled on an as-needed basis depending on department needs. Applications stay active for 1 year.

Position Summary

The Child Development Substitute Assistant Teacher assists in teaching, protecting, and providing care for preschool children in a college child development center. The Center provides childcare, child development, nutrition, and related services for the preschool children of students, staff, and community members.

Job Duties
  • Carry out planned learning activities and prepare materials and equipment for the children.
  • Conduct learning activities with the children.
  • Supervise activities to ensure safety and assist with personal activities such as eating and toileting.
  • Monitor children’s progress and report pertinent observations to the regular classroom teacher.
  • Share pertinent information with parents about their child’s daily experience.
  • Assist in maintaining a safe and clean center facility and equipment.

The incumbent is expected to maintain currency in the position’s required fields of professional expertise and competencies and to maintain Red Cross first aid and CPR certifications. The incumbent is required to maintain complete confidentiality of student records and other confidential information.

Minimum Qualifications

Associate degree in Early Childhood Education.

Successful Candidate must have or must possess:

  • Experience working with young children (ages 6 months – 5 years old).
  • Experience in Early Childhood Education.
  • Experience in child development and learning principles and applications.
  • Experience in child protection and care.

Candidates must possess proven ability to effectively work with culturally, linguistically, and ethnically diverse faculty, staff, and students. Experience with reflective, interactive, culturally responsive pedagogical teaching techniques. Excellent oral and written communication skills and strong information technology literacy (e.g., Microsoft Office: Word, Excel, Outlook, Teams).

Preferred Qualifications
  • Two (2) years of related experience working with preschool children and child development.
  • Experience interacting with parents, children, student teachers, and staff.
Salary

$34.06 hourly.
