Residential Summer Camp Staff – L.G. Cook 4‑H Camp
We are looking for energetic, problem‑solving individuals to join us as cabin, senior, or support counselors for our 8‑week residential summer program in Stokes State Forest, New Jersey. All staff will live on site for the duration of the contract.
About the CampL.G. Cook 4‑H Camp is a residential, overnight summer camp dedicated to providing the youth of New Jersey with a fun, safe, enriching, and transformative experience.
During each 8‑week contract, staff will work full‑time, living on site and leading various activities and classes with campers aged 8‑16.
Compensation and BenefitsSalary range: $500–$9,400, depending on qualifications, experience, and funding. Rutgers offers a comprehensive benefits package for eligible employees, including:

- Manage in‑camp daily routines and supervise campers in residential cabins.
- Plan, coordinate, and facilitate outdoor and indoor activities, including fishing, canoeing, archery, environmental education, creative arts, and community service projects.
- Conduct and train in first‑aid, CPR, AED, and use of recreational equipment.
- Work with kitchen and janitorial support to maintain a safe, clean living environment.
- Maintain high standards of safety and conduct as outlined in the Camp Code of Conduct.
- Provide individualized support for campers, ensuring their safety, well‑being, and learning.
- Age 18 years or older at the start of the summer season.
- Prior childcare or residential camp experience preferred.
- No required certifications for most counselor roles.
- Lifeguard applicants must hold a valid Red Cross Lifeguarding certification or intend to complete it before summer.
- Infirmary staff required to hold First Responder, EMT, Athletic Trainer, RN, or LPN certification.
- All staff trained in First Aid, CPR, and AED during staff training.
- Experience with recreational equipment such as watercraft, archery supplies, or cleaning equipment.
- Training in AED and epinephrine auto‑injectors.
- Active, rustic setting with uneven terrain and 108 acres of woodland.
- Long days of activity with continuous supervision of campers, including rest and mealtimes.
- Ability to navigate campers across camp grounds, travel in rural environments.
- Sleep in cabin bunks; use of communal restrooms.
- No alcohol or drugs permitted on site.
