Rutgers University Correctional Health Care is seeking a Dental Assistant to work at the Northern State Prison located in Newark, New Jersey. The Dental Assistant assists the Dentist during the examination and treatment of patients by performing certain inter-oral tasks under the direct supervision of a licensed dentist.
- Prepares operatory with appropriate instruments and material for the patients scheduled to be seen.
- Provides chair-side assistance during treatment recognizing the dentist's need for instruments, material, retraction or suction.
- Mixes and fabricates restorative materials; sterilizes instruments and disinfects operatory between patients.
- Develops and mounts routine radiographs; assists in exposing intra-oral and extra-oral radiographs; maintains and cleans x-ray unit, film processor, autoclave, wet tank and dental unit.
- Orders and keeps inventory of supplies to maintain established levels.
- Assists in maintaining dental charts, dental findings, maintains confidentiality of the dental records and schedules patients for dental appointments.
- Collects requested data for dental clinic reports.
- Minimum Salary: $24.830
- Mid Range Salary: $25.330
- Maximum Salary: $26.090

Full Time – 40 hours per week – Day shift – Full onsite work arrangement.
QualificationsMinimum Education and Experience
- Graduate from an accredited Dental Assisting Program.
- Certification as a Dental Assistant in the State of New Jersey.
- Valid Dental Radiology Technology License issued by the NJ Department of Environmental Protection.
- Must be certified in CPR.
- Valid driver's license required. Must possess own vehicle or alternative means of transportation from one site to another.
- Computer literacy.
To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. Requirements include: graduate from an accredited Dental Assisting Program; certification as a Dental Assistant in New Jersey; valid Dental Radiology Technology License; CPR certification; computer literacy; approval by the Department of Corrections (DOC) and adherence to all DOC requirements; compliance with all security regulations and procedures of the NJ Department of Corrections and assigned facilities, including sign-in logs or electronic time clocks;
adherence to mandatory searches and other regulations. Violations of DOC policies or bans by DOC are grounds for disciplinary action and potential termination.
