Position Overview

Co Adj Non‑Teaching – NJTSS‑ER Trainer/Coach, part‑time position within the GSAPP‑Inclusive Schools Project. Salary range: $11,000–$30,500. The role offers the opportunity to provide regional training and coaching for Rutgers University’s New Jersey Tiered Systems of Support for Early Reading (NJTSS‑ER) project, helping school districts implement evidence‑based reading instruction for kindergarten through third grade.

Benefits

  • Paid vacation, holidays, and various leave programs
  • Competitive retirement benefits, including defined contribution plans and voluntary tax‑deferred savings options
  • Employee and dependent educational benefits

Responsibilities

One of the most complex aspects of this regional coach position involves exercising professional judgment to identify and address gaps in instructional practice and/or system alignment while maintaining trust and collaboration with educators. The coach must independently assess practices and procedures, analyze student learning data, and determine appropriate next steps. Discretion is essential in determining how to approach coaching conversations in ways that promote educator reflection and growth while also aligning with NJTSS‑ER priorities.

Coaches must also navigate varying levels of district/school/educator readiness and school culture, tailoring strategies to meet individual educator needs while ensuring fidelity to research‑based reading and writing practices. This requires balancing content expertise, pedagogical knowledge, and strong interpersonal skills to influence instructional change that ultimately improves student outcomes.

Qualifications
  • Master’s degree or higher
  • Specialized training or certification in a structured literacy instructional approach
  • Three or more years of experience coaching, mentoring, or instructing adult learners in an educational setting
  • Advanced knowledge of research‑based reading instructional practices
  • Preferred: strong interpersonal skills and competencies
