Rutgers, The State University of New Jersey, is seeking a Dean of School of Communication & Information for the Provost and Executive Vice Chancellor for Academic Affairs. The Dean reports to Rutgers–New Brunswick Chancellor Francine Conway and is a member of the chancellor’s leadership team. As the school’s chief executive and academic officer, the Dean has overall responsibility for defining the school’s strategic vision and priorities, developed in concert with the school’s faculty and staff in support of the Rutgers–New Brunswick Academic Master Plan (AMP).
Responsibilities- Recruit, retain, and support a faculty of national and global prominence.
- Foster educational and research programs of the highest quality; attract and retain an outstanding student body.
- Facilitate connections between theory and practice in both research and teaching.
- Foster and support externally funded research; engage in significant development and fundraising to support strategic priorities; ensure the short‑ and long‑term economic health of the school.
- Serve as the school’s primary ambassador, advocate, and spokesperson to external constituencies including alumni, donors, and the greater community.
- Engage a dynamic community of faculty, students, and staff to address the most pressing challenges in communication, information, and media today.
- Provide leadership, support, and mentorship to the school’s faculty and staff and steward the operations and infrastructure of the school.
- Work in concert with other Deans and with Rutgers–New Brunswick and university‑wide leadership to ensure Rutgers achieves its mission and is prepared to continue to do so into the decades ahead.
- Collaborate on cross‑school initiatives that further the goals of the Academic Master Plan and expand new opportunities for research, teaching, and community engagement.
