Energy Engineer, Energy Management/ Efficiency
Performance Systems Development (PSD) is seeking a Technical Outreach Specialist to drive participation in our energy efficiency programs in New Jersey by recruiting and engaging property owners and other multifamily stakeholders into the program. This role builds strong external relationships, increases program visibility, and supports customer adoption of participation tools and incentives.
Responsibilities- Educate eligible NJ multifamily property owners, contractors, managers, and other stakeholders about utility energy efficiency programs, eligibility requirements, program guidelines, incentives, and benefits.
- Conduct initial building energy assessments – using proprietary software similar to an energy audit – collecting on‑site data on energy consumption, HVAC/mechanical equipment, building envelope, pre‑existing conditions, facility needs, and plans to inform recommendations for energy conservation measures.
- Support implementation of outreach strategies, marketing methods, and stakeholder engagement plans; coordinate with internal teams to streamline processes and improve outcomes.
- Resident of New Jersey.
- Bachelor’s degree in a related field.
- 2+ years experience in the built environment (e.g., contractor‑related services, property management, utility or decarbonization programs, energy‑efficiency or renewable‑energy services, multifamily housing agencies).
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills with the ability to engage diverse stakeholders.
- Ability to travel locally within the program service area with a reliable vehicle; mileage reimbursed for approved company travel; must possess an active and valid Driver’s License.
- Experience in energy efficiency, green building, or multifamily housing sectors is beneficial.
- Knowledge of building systems or energy‑efficiency concepts desired.
- Experience conducting site visits, walk‑throughs, or basic technical assessments is preferable.
- Preferred but not required: BPI or related certifications.
- Physical Demands: Frequent computer use requiring periods of sitting and close audio‑visual concentration; ability to drive for extended periods.
- Work Environment: Remote and field work.
- Travel Requirements: Some travel as needed to support recruitment goals within the program’s geographical region. Occasional travel may be required for client meetings, conferences, and PSD company meetings.
