Our Sales and Use Tax Lookback Review COE is a national team that leads large multi‑state sales and use tax recovery projects for EY’s largest clients. Key Responsibilities

Every day is unique for a Sales and Use Tax Senior in the COE. You’ll spend your time on a diverse array of projects, responsibilities and tasks, providing up‑to‑minute tax advice to clients in multiple industries within a highly collaborative culture.

Skills and Attributes for Success
  • Researching clients’ business operations and building long‑lasting relationships
  • Identifying applicable sales and use tax exemptions and exclusions
  • Identifying potential over payment opportunities or risks and communicating them to clients
  • Monitoring current tax law changes to maintain credibility as a trusted advisor
  • Developing clear and intelligent plans for sales and use tax recoveries
  • Preparing and defending sales and use tax refund claims
  • Participating in a motivated team of professionals
  • Supervising a motivated team, ensuring they have the skills, knowledge and opportunities to reach their full potential
To qualify for the role
  • A bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, Business or a related discipline
  • Professional knowledge in a broad range of sales and use tax processes, concepts and tools
  • A proven record of excellence in a professional services or tax organization
  • Technical writing and research experience in a tax context
  • Ability to prioritize when working on multiple complex projects
  • Strong influencing skills and confidence to question existing processes
  • Willingness to travel as needed and work in a balanced hybrid environment
Ideally, you’ll also have
  • An achieved or partially achieved CPA qualification, certification as a member of the Institute for Professionals in Taxation, CMI designation, or the ability to sit for a state bar

  • We offer a comprehensive compensation and benefits package where you’ll be rewarded based on your performance and recognized for the value you bring to the business. The base salary range for this job in all geographic locations in the US is $81,700 to $135,000. The base salary range for New York City Metro Area, Washington State and California (excluding Sacramento) is $98,100 to $153,500.

    Individual salaries within those ranges are determined through a wide variety of factors including but not limited to education, experience, knowledge, skills and geography. In addition, our total rewards package includes medical and dental coverage, pension and 401(k) plans, and a wide range of paid time off options.
  • Join us in our team‑led and leader‑enabled hybrid model. Our expectation is for most people in external, client‑serving roles to work together in person 40–60% of the time over the course of an engagement, project or year.
