The compensation offered to the candidate selected for the position will depend on several factors, including the candidate's educational background, skills and professional experience.

Responsibilities

The Emergency Call Taker 1 is responsible for answering and processing emergency, non-emergency and administrative calls in a timely and professional manner. Under the direction of the Communications Supervisor, this position is accountable for receiving requests for service, inputting the information into a Computer Aided Dispatch (CAD) system, and properly triaging call through the Medical Priority Dispatch System (MPDS). Standard of performance is limited to the use of the knowledge, skills and techniques within the International Academy of Emergency Dispatch (IAED) Emergency Medical Dispatch (EMD) Guidelines and in accordance with all applicable laws, regulations and Mobile Health policies.

Qualifications

Required:

  • High School Diploma or GED
  • American Heart Association BLS for Healthcare Provider
  • APCO BTC or State approved equivalent within 90 days of employment
  • IAED EMD within 90 days of employment
  • Haz Mat Awareness within 6 months of employment
  • WMD or CBRNE Awareness within 6 months of employment
  • NIMS I-700 within 6 months of employment
  • ICS-200 within 6 months of employment
  • Must be at least 18 years of age
  • Driver’s license record check and criminal background check

Preferred:

  • One year dispatch experience with another public safety agency

Certifications and Licenses

Required:

  • High School Diploma or GED
  • American Heart Association BLS for Healthcare Provider

  • IAED EMD within 90 days of employment
  • Haz Mat Awareness within 6 months of employment
  • WMD or CBRNE Awareness within 6 months of employment

  • ICS-200 within 6 months of employment
Scheduling Requirements
  • Full-Time, Nights
  • 40 hours per week
Essential Functions
  • Conducts self in a professional, dignified and compassionate manner at all times
  • Capable of communicating clearly, effectively, professionally and in English via written and verbal means
  • Notifies Supervisor of any deficiencies regarding maintenance, equipment, or supplies
  • Notifies Supervisor immediately of any unusual circumstances
  • Answers telephones in a calm, efficient, prompt and professional manner
  • Assesses the nature and extent of injury or illness in accordance with the IAED MPDS to establish and prioritize appropriate resources and administer pre-arrival instructions to callers
  • Assesses the need for additional services and makes the appropriate requests
  • Consults a computer screen to ascertain pending assignments and changing situations
  • Enters all required information into the CAD system and assures completeness
  • Interacts professionally with partners, patients, management, colleagues from other EMS agencies, public safety personnel and other healthcare providers and members of the public
  • Performs other duties as required or requested by EMS management, necessary to the function of the organization
