Overview
Developmental Pediatric Psychologist — Department of Pediatrics. The Developmental Pediatric Psychologist will conduct assessments, provide direct intervention, participate in meetings, and contribute to education/training with a focus on growth and development across age groups (neonates, pediatrics, adolescents, adults, geriatrics).
Responsibilities- Conduct Assessment Services
- Evaluation of current cognitive functioning using standardized instruments (e.g., WISC-III or WAIS-R), interviews, and additional measures of cognitive ability.
- Evaluation of current emotional functioning (mental status, depression, personality style, interpersonal functioning, etc.).
- Evaluation of parenting skills, including attachment, interaction quality, knowledge of child development, discipline skills, behavioral expectations, and family support networks and utilization.
- Validation of abuse (physical and sexual) and related indicators such as fearfulness, defensiveness, trauma evidence, dissociation, consistency of allegations, and details provided.
- Risk assessment to determine family/individual needs and vulnerabilities.
- Perpetrator assessment to evaluate consistency of statements, responsibility, victim empathy, and impact awareness.
- Bonding evaluations to address the nature of attachment between caretakers and children.
- Forensic evaluations for cases expected to be in litigation.
- Assess patients considering growth and development factors appropriate to the age and setting (neonates, pediatrics, adolescents, adults, geriatrics).
- Assess clients at satellite or outreach centers and travel independently to all sites served by the CNJRCDC.
- Offer Direct Intervention
- Short-term, problem-focused therapy. Treatments can be provided at the center and at outreach sites for issues such as parenting skills, postpartum depression, and family reunification. Treatments can be individual or group-based.
- Group work including parenting education, groups for abusers, victim groups, high-risk non-abusive parents, and mother-infant groups for parents of sexually/physically abused children.
- Consultation to parents, children with adjustment difficulties, nursing, medicine, and social work. Plan care considering growth and development factors appropriate to the patient’s age.
- Implements care considering growth and development factors for the appropriate age range.
- Meetings
- Attend professional meetings to discuss relevant cases as needed.
- Attend psychosocial team meetings and participate in developmental case presentations by preparing and presenting cases to the team.
- Education/Training
- Provide education and supervision to students/trainees as required.
- Teach patients with consideration of age-related growth and development.
- Participate in education and development activities and maintain professional credentialing, demonstrating competency in knowledge and skills for age-related populations.
- Record Keeping
- Prepare complete records after meetings with clients, including reports, case notes, and chart notes.
- Ensure procedures are performed according to established standards and that practice aligns with age-related developmental considerations.

Requirements- Doctorate in child clinical, developmental, school, or pediatric psychology.
- New Jersey license or license eligibility required (supervision by a licensed psychologist available).
- Two years of experience in assessment; developmental pediatrics, treatment of parents and children, and consultation.
- Bilingual ability (English/Spanish) strongly preferred.
