Posting SummaryRutgers, The State University of New Jersey, is seeking a Supervising Research Scientist for the department of Psychiatry at the Robert Wood Johnson Medical School.
Under the direction of the Director of the Center for Psychiatric Health & Genomics (CPHG), the Supervising Research Scientist is responsible for supporting the Director in providing scientific leadership and furthering research development within the Center. This includes supporting development of new research initiatives within the Center and supporting existing Programs of other faculty within the Center, especially those newly recruited into the Center.
The Supervising Research Scientist will also serve as the staff scientific lead for the Pato Lab under the direction of principal investigators. This includes ensuring achievement of scientific Aims of the extramurally funded research projects within the lab and supervising and directing scientific staff in support of achieving those Aims. The Pato Lab focuses on human subjects studies of persons with Serious Mental Illness (SMI).
Responsibilities- Support the Director in implementing academic and scientific activities of CPHG, including speaker series, preparation of scientific presentations and publications, participation in scientific consortia, etc. Under the direction of the Director, initiate and lead new research programs in psychiatric genomics, including participating in study design and human subjects protocol designs.
- Serve as coordinator of scientific partnerships in genomic analyses, including analyzing extant and future cohort populations for inclusion/exclusion criteria in studies, managing flow of biospecimens and data in these partnerships, monitoring QC of biospecimens and data, and participating in analytic design and methodology plans and subsequent genomic analysis.
- Support human subjects research participant cohort database management and analysis, including tracking and managing access, use, and analysis by CPHG faculty, trainees, students, and academic partners. Facilitate and track use of cohort data by the scientific community external to Rutgers University, including supporting communication and coordination among external partners to enhance scientific discovery and reduce duplicative science.
- Serve as lead on specified extramurally sponsored projects. Supervise and provide oversight of ascertainment/assessment teams that recruit and conduct structured diagnostic interviews of clinical research study participants and of programming and data management personnel. Assist with instructing and training lower-level study raters, recruiters and collection of samples to develop the skills necessary to perform the required functions.
