. The Rutgers University Foundation in conjunction with the Rutgers Business School (RBS) seeks an energetic, resourceful and team‑oriented advancement professional to serve as the Director of Development. The role comes at a time of great enthusiasm and exciting growth for the future in anticipation of a multi‑billion dollar university‑wide campaign.
Reporting to the Senior Director of Development, the Director will identify, cultivate, solicit and steward prospects and current donors and work with departments, faculty, and student organizations to engage alumni, individuals and industry partners.
Essential Functions- Actively meet with current and prospective donors capable of giving $100,000+; maintain at least 120 visits annually; secure a minimum of $1 million annually from assigned prospects.
- Cultivate and maintain strong working relationships with prospects, department chairs, faculty and campus partners.
- Model best practices for relationship‑driven fundraising and support the dean and campus partners in organizing donor meetings, managing logistics, drafting briefing materials and follow‑up reports.
- Attend school, alumni, and campus functions to develop familiarity with the culture of the school and alumni base, and participate in donor programs and events.
- Maintain donor information in the development database and provide appropriate reports to partners.

- Meet and exceed individual fundraising metrics.
- Execute complex donor pipeline strategies.
- Identify new prospects for assigned units.
- Sustain strong relationships with deans, chairs, directors, and faculty.
- Recruit and manage volunteers effectively.
- Operate autonomously.
- Lead multiple projects or teams.
- Close multi‑unit proposals.
- Manage and lead a team or volunteers, maximizing potential.
- Lead a comprehensive unit or central development department or program.
Bachelor’s degree and 5+ years of progressively responsible fundraising experience, including management and major gifts. Preference for candidates with experience in higher education and a Master’s degree.
Working ConditionsThe position requires focus while juggling complex projects or deadlines, with minimal physical effort. It may involve evenings, weekends, odd hours, and occasional travel.
Workplace ArrangementsOffice‑centric hybrid position: primary workstation in a university or foundation location, in‑office 1–5 days a week.
Compensation and BenefitsStarting salary $115,500 per year. Benefits include office‑centric hybrid work schedule, comprehensive medical, dental, vision insurance for employee and dependents, 403(b) matching, 3 weeks annual vacation plus 5 wellness days and 15 sick days, nine holidays and four floating holidays, significant tuition reductions, professional development, and a $40 monthly cell phone reimbursement.
