Overview

University Correctional Health Care (UCHC), a Rutgers University unit, provides comprehensive physical, mental, and dental health services to New Jersey criminal justice system participants. With a $150 million budget and approximately 1,000 staff, UCHC is a leader in compassionate, research‑informed correctional care.

This Per Diem Staff Nurse position is located at Edna Mahan Correctional Facility in Clinton, NJ. The role utilizes the nursing process to deliver direct and indirect care to inmate patients, collaborates with correctional health professionals and security officers, and functions guided by nursing protocols. The nurse serves as a team leader as assigned.

• Provides direct and indirect nursing care to meet physiological, psychosocial, and emotional needs of adult and geriatric inmate patients and their families.
• Uses effective communication skills, demonstrating respect, concern, and courtesy in all interpersonal relationships.
• Promotes a safe environment while delivering health care to inmate patients.
• Maintains current professional skills and engages in professional growth to enhance correctional nursing practice and organizational image.
• Adheres to personnel policies to enhance the operation of the health care unit.

Graduate from an accredited School of Nursing, licensed to practice in New Jersey.

• CPR Certification required.
• Valid Driver's License required; must possess own vehicle or alternative transportation for site travel.

Preferred:
Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) or equivalent; minimum of one year correctional setting experience.
