Position Details

Postdoctoral Associate – Astrophysics (Rutgers‑CCA Flatiron Research Fellow). Department: SAS – Physics & Astronomy.

Salary:
Minimum salary per Postdoc Union Contract – $63,968. The final salary offer may be determined by factors including qualifications, experience, and grant or departmental funds available. We are committed to offering competitive and flexible compensation packages.

Location:

Rutgers University – New Brunswick, with a joint appointment at the Center for Computational Astrophysics (CCA) at the Simons Foundation Flatiron Institute in New York City.

Appointment:
Initial two‑year appointment at Rutgers University, followed by a third‑year appointment at CCA as a Flatiron Research Fellow. An additional year may be possible at CCA contingent on performance.

Start date:

• Work on the galaxy‑interstellar medium interface under the guidance of Professor Blakesley Burkhart.
• Contribute to a research program on star formation, galaxy formation, the interstellar medium, and fluid dynamics.
• Handle large observational or numerical data‑sets, employ machine learning techniques, and run/analyze numerical simulations.
• Engage in observational work, mentor graduate students, and attend journal clubs, coffee meetings, and colloquia at CCA and Rutgers.
• Develop and lead independent projects within the research framework.

• Ph.D. in astronomy or physics required by the start date.
• Proficiency with large data‑sets, machine learning, and numerical simulation analysis.
• Experience in developing and leading independent research projects.
