Position Overview
Postdoctoral Associate in Structural Biology and Biophysics – Deaconescu Lab, Rutgers University – focusing on microbial stress responses, DNA damage, and the mechanochemistry of DNA‑based motors.
Research involves biochemical, biophysical, and structural techniques such as X‑ray crystallography, small‑angle X‑ray scattering, transmission electron microscopy, cryo‑electron microscopy, EMSA, ITC, AUC, fluorescence anisotropy, BLI, MST, CD, and related assays. The candidate will perform protein expression, purification, complex characterization, data acquisition, image processing, and structure calculation, and may receive training in crystallization, EM software, Linux usage, and manuscript preparation.
Qualifications- PhD in structural biology, biochemistry, biophysics or a related field, with a solid track record of peer‑reviewed publications.
- Strong experience in protein biochemistry and protein–nucleic acid complex characterization.
- Prior knowledge of crystallography and/or single‑particle electron microscopy is highly desirable.
- Highly motivated, self‑driven, and capable of independent and collaborative work.
- Excellent written and spoken English. New Ph.D. graduates are especially encouraged to apply.
Skills and Abilities
- Proficiency in molecular biology, protein expression, and purification.
- Familiarity with biophysical assays such as EMSA, ITC, AUC, fluorescence anisotropy, BLI, MST, and CD.
- Experience with assay development and molecular microbiology is a plus.
- Comfortable using Linux operating system.
- Strong written and oral communication and ability to prepare scientific manuscripts and grant proposals.
Salary: $63,968 (or negotiated based on qualifications, experience, and grant availability).
