Outside Plant Engineer

OSP Fiber Field Surveyor / OSP Engineering Technician

Core Responsibilities

• Conduct utility pole surveys and telecommunications infrastructure assessments
• Verify pole ownership, attachments, clearances, and field conditions
• Collect field data including:
• GPS coordinates
• Measurements
• Photographs
• Existing attachment information
• Review engineering drawings, maps, prints, and records
• Identify discrepancies between records and actual field conditions
• Document findings using company software and reporting systems
• Coordinate with project managers, engineers, customers, and utility representatives
• Follow all safety procedures and project deadlines

Required Skills & Experience

Telecommunications / OSP

• OSP engineering or telecommunications experience
• Knowledge of fiber optic networks
• Understanding of:
• Fiber counts
• Cable routing

Field Survey Experience

• Utility pole surveying
• Field data collection
• Infrastructure inspection
• Route verification

Technical Skills

• Microsoft Office
• Reading engineering drawings and maps
• Technical documentation interpretation

Soft Skills

• Self-management
• Time management
• Strong communication
• Reliability and professionalism
• Ability to work independently

Preferred Qualifications

• Aerial fiber construction knowledge
• Underground fiber construction knowledge
• GIS mapping tools
• CAD software
• Splice planning
• Utility pole attachment standards

Physical & Travel Requirements

• Daily field work
• Outdoor work in varying weather conditions
• Walking and standing for extended periods
• Travel within a 1-3 hour radius from home
