Infrastructure Field Engineer
Join to apply for the Infrastructure Field Engineer role at SCIGON
We are seeking a highly reliable, hands‑on Infrastructure Field Engineer to provide Tier 1 support for production‑grade servers, storage, and networking systems. This is a boots‑on‑the‑ground role focused on maintaining hardware health, coordinating repairs, and ensuring environments remain clean, organized, and operational. You will work directly with OEM vendors on RMAs, manage data‑center access and scheduling, and occasionally perform onsite tasks such as racking servers, cabling gear, labeling hardware, and documenting deployments.
In short—you are the person who ensures everything is plugged in, powered up, and ready for action.
- Provide Tier 1 support for production servers, storage systems, and networking equipment.
- Coordinate OEM hardware RMAs, including troubleshooting, part replacement, and follow‑up.
- Manage data‑center access requests, escort procedures, and maintenance windows.
- Schedule and track onsite repair work with vendors, data‑center technicians, and internal teams.
- Perform onsite installations: racking, cabling, labeling, powering, and validating new hardware.
- Maintain accurate documentation for deployments, inventory, cabling, and network topology.
- Follow standard procedures for incident triage, escalation, and ticket updates.
- Assist with basic network troubleshooting (link issues, cabling faults, transceiver swaps, etc.).
- 1-3 years of experience in data‑center operations, IT support, or hands‑on infrastructure work.
- Strong familiarity with server hardware components (SSD, DIMMs, NICs, PSUs, etc.).
- Basic understanding of networking concepts (cabling types, VLANs, link lights, switch ports).
- Comfortable performing physical tasks: racking, lifting up to ~40 lbs, and cable management.
- Ability to follow clean labeling standards and cable‑management best practices.
- Excellent communication and coordination skills for working with vendors, data centers, and internal engineering teams.
- Willingness to travel to local data‑center sites as needed.
- Experience with enterprise OEMs (Lenovo, Dell, Nvidia).
- Familiarity with Jira or similar ticketing systems.
- Exposure to Linux systems or basic CLI troubleshooting.
- Understanding of structured cabling and labeling conventions.
- Ability to adapt and thrive in a fast‑moving, dynamic environment.
- Strong problem‑solving skills with the ability to diagnose and resolve issues.
- Clear communication skills for collaboration across operations and cloud engineering teams.
- Detail‑oriented mindset, ensuring infrastructure reliability and high availability.
