Referral bonuses of $1,000 are available to referring DHSS employees. You must be a new employee to the State of DE to be eligible for this program. The Delaware Department of Health and Social Services (DHSS) seeks to increase the number of applicants for clinical nursing positions by offering a recruitment incentive to eligible Advanced Practice Nurse, Nurse Consultant, Nursing Supervisor, Compliance Nurse, Registered Nurse, Licensed Practical Nurse, and Certified Nursing Assistant candidates in accordance with the DHSS Recruitment and Referral Incentive Program.
The program provides incentives as follows:
Recruitment incentives will be paid in quarterly installments over the first year of hire and will begin after the first quarter of employment. New employees accepting this recruitment bonus must commit to two consecutive years of employment with DHSS. You must be a new employee to the state to be eligible for this incentive. Referral bonuses of $1,000 are available to current DHSS employees who refer new hires to the state in the following classifications:
Advanced Practice Nurse, Nurse Consultant, Nursing Supervisor, Compliance Nurse, Registered Nurse, Licensed Practical Nurse, and Certified Nursing Assistant. Referral bonuses of $1,000 will be paid in quarterly installments over the first year of hire of the referred applicant.

This program is administered by the Department of Health and Social Services. The program may be terminated by the State at any time.
The LPN, a Licensed Practical Nurse, is sometimes referred to as a vocational nurse. LPNs provide direct care to their patients. They are responsible for daily basic needs of patients, including administering medication and treatments, and maintain close communication with their supervisors, the Registered Nurses. If patients have minor wounds, LPNs perform wound cleaning and dressing changes. LPNs are also responsible for checking patients hydration and food intake and assisting patients with hygiene and ADLs.
EssentialFunctions
- Administers treatments as directed.
- Takes and records vital signs (temperature, blood pressure, pulse and respiration).
- Pours, administers, charts and records medications.
- Gives prescribed intramuscular and subcutaneous injections and inoculations.
- Observes patient behavior and condition and reports changes to appropriate staff.
- Records information on patients' charts.
Licensed Practical Nurse IRequirements:
- Possession of a Delaware Practical Nurse license, Delaware temporary license or multi-state compact license.
Licensed Practical Nurse IIRequirements:
- Possession of a Delaware Practical Nursing license or multi-state compact license. At least six months experience as a Practical Nurse.
Licensed Practical Nurse IIIRequirements:
- Possession of a Delaware Practical Nursing license or multi-state compact license. At least eighteen months experience as a Practical Nurse.

Conditions of HireAll new hires are required to attend an in-person, statewide mandatory New Employee Orientation on their first day of employment. The session will be held at a designated location in either Kent or New Castle County. A satisfactory criminal background check is required and must be covered by the applicant, with an estimated cost of $85.00. Pre-employment drug testing is also required.
Additionally, all new hires are required to complete a 2-Step TB/PPD test, which will be administered on their first day at the facility. This position is a classification organized under an exclusive bargaining representative (labor organization) that has been elected by employees as their representative for collective bargaining and other applicable terms and conditions of employment, in accordance with Title 29, Chapter 59 and Title 19, Chapter 13 and 16.
This position is covered by a collective bargaining agreement based on its individual terms. Applicants must be legally authorized to work in the United States.
