Multi‑Skilled Operator – NAF – North American Forge masters

Assisting the Blacksmith Production Manager with daily communication, loading and unloading of materials and operating various lifting and mobile equipment as well as performing quality inspections, technology maintenance, and supporting the overall flow of production.

• Observes all safety rules and regulations and meets all safety program requirements.
• Maintains work area in a clean, orderly, and safe condition per the housekeeping policy.
• Receives daily communication from the Blacksmith Production Manager (verbal/electronic).
• Utilizes an overhead crane and various below‑hook lifting devices as appropriate for the part being handled to load and unload trucks and railcars for material movements; operates crane and mobile equipment with care to avoid damage; inspects chains, slings, mobile equipment and cranes daily.
• Initials and dates bills of lading (BOL)/disposition documentation as required prior to loading; receives material, equipment and supplies; initialises and dates packing list or bills of lading and disposition documentation as required; orders miscellaneous shipping supplies as necessary.
• Performs dimensional inspections on as‑forged parts and records/enters sizes, weights, etc. as required.
• Separates crop ends by color and loads them into scrap trucks.
• Handles, identifies, and transfers raw, work‑in‑process and finished material as necessary; coats non‑ferrous material as required by conversion customers; assists in conducting physical inventory surveys.
• Refuels mobile equipment as necessary.
• Operates grinder to remove defects, cracks, seams, laps, etc. from material; grinds press dies as necessary.
• Performs yard duties such as dumping scale/scrap/trash, arranging press tools, transporting material in/out around the shop, and scheduling pickup for scale/metal recycling/municipal waste.
• Operates manipulators, forklifts, skid steer, long‑reach and other mobile equipment as necessary.
• Expected to become proficient at the skill set of each forge crew position; once proficient, will be included in on‑call weekends.
• Receives ingots, cross‑checks BOLs, various paperwork and inventory tracking system for accuracy, recording subsequent ingot location and time.
• Performs post‑forge heat‑treat operations.
• Assists in the installation or changing of dies or tools.
• Maintains two‑way radio communication with shipping, management, and other press crew members.
• Reports defective material, tooling and faulty equipment to the Production Manager.
• Performs work in accordance with NAF's ISO 9001 Quality Management System (QMS).

• Assists with onboarding and/or training new/existing employees in shipping.
• Lubricates equipment and performs minor maintenance as necessary.
• Aids maintenance as needed.
• Performs all other duties as necessary.
• Demonstrates a positive attitude and contributes to an environment of strong teamwork and cooperation.

• High School Diploma or GED – required.
