Burner​/Torch Operator

The Burner/Torch Operator is responsible for cutting oversize or large ferrous material using an oxy-fuel torch (torch cart) to a size acceptable to the steel mill.

As a Burner/Torch Operator, you must be able to work outdoors in all weather conditions while wearing appropriate safety and weather protection gear.

The working hours are from 6:00am to 6:30pm, following a rotating schedule: 2 days on, 2 days off, then 3 days on, 3 days off.

• Ensure all materials are safely and properly staged for processing.
• Cut oversized ferrous materials to desired specifications using an oxy-fuel torch.
• Inspect and maintain all torch equipment for safe and efficient operation.
• Follow all safety rules and regulations regarding PPE.
• Maintain a safe work area free of fire hazards and trip/fall hazards.

• High School Diploma or GED.
• Bi-lingual (English and Spanish) is a plus.
• Experience with oxy-fuel torch preferred.
• Knowledge of scrap metal processing is preferred.
• Mechanical background is preferred.

• Work environment involves scrap metal recycling and torch cutting areas.
• Equipment includes oxy-fuel torch cutting tools and mechanics tools.
• Physical demand level is moderate to heavy.
• Requires sensory input: hearing, vision, touch, smell.
• Repetitive hand movements and gripping.

Note:

Employment is contingent upon passing a drug screen, physical exam, background check, and credit check (if applicable). Applicants must be 18 or older.
