A large, global, commercial-stage biotechnology company is seeking an Executive Medical Director to provide clinical and scientific leadership for a high-priority hematology and cardiovascular development portfolio. This role offers end-to-end ownership of clinical development strategy and execution across early- through late-phase programs and represents a highly visible leadership opportunity within a well-established organization with approved products and a robust pipeline.
The Executive Medical Director will partner closely with senior program leadership and cross-functional stakeholders to drive efficient, data‑driven development in an evolving regulatory landscape.
Role & ImpactThis is a senior leadership position with responsibility for shaping clinical strategy, influencing regulatory pathways, and leading multidisciplinary teams across global development programs. The role combines strategic oversight with hands‑on clinical leadership and offers direct impact on programs advancing toward late‑stage development and regulatory submission.
Key Responsibilities- Provide overall clinical and scientific leadership for one or more hematology and/or cardiovascular programs
- Own and drive clinical development strategy across early development, late-phase execution, and regulatory submission activities
- Serve as a senior medical leader in interactions with global regulatory authorities, key opinion leaders, advisory boards, external partners, and internal stakeholders across research, clinical operations, regulatory, medical affairs, HEOR, and commercial functions
- Design, build, and defend robust, data‑driven clinical development plans using scientific rigor and innovative trial design approaches
- Lead clinical execution activities including study start‑up, medical monitoring, data review, database lock, and regulatory responses
- Build alignment and drive sound decision‑making within complex, global, matrixed development teams
- This role includes direct management of physician leaders and significant leadership responsibility across global development teams.
- Lead, mentor, and develop physicians and clinical scientists while fostering a high‑performance, collaborative culture
- MD or equivalent medical degree required (MD strongly preferred)
- Extensive experience in clinical development within hematology and/or cardiovascular disease
- Proven leadership experience across IND and BLA/NDA submissions
- Demonstrated success leading early- and late-stage clinical programs, including global Phase II/III trials
- Strong track record engaging with regulatory authorities and external scientific experts
- 12+ years total clinical development experience
- 8-10+ years in industry clinical development roles
- 5+ years of people leadership, including matrixed team environments
