Substitute General Ed Teacher - Temporary Overview

Job Summary:
To teach preschool children requiring general and special education, to carry out evaluations and prepare curriculum and other teaching strategies.
- Work collaboratively with Special Education Teacher to plan and implement Creative Curriculum. Innovates and develops new material tailored to specific children.
- Performs a variety of general education classroom assessments on children on a continuing basis including individualized screening of basic skills (Brigance, Creative Curriculum Assessment). Prepare reports of evaluations and findings for submission to appropriate school districts and parents for follow‑through and use.
- Understands CPSE and CSE process and expectations for implementation of IEP goals and works collaboratively with Special Education Teacher to carry out instruction to meet these goals.
- Participates in team conferences with supervisor therapists, classroom team and other agency professionals to gain and share knowledge of individual children in a variety of situations and to better understand and meet their needs in the classroom. Confers with parents to discuss child in a supportive manner and educates parents on how they can be supportive and carry out other activities to support the overall program.
- Works collaboratively with Special Education Teacher to supervise the work of the Teacher’s Aide.
- Assists children with daily living activities such as diapering, toileting, dressing and feeding.
- Keeps abreast of best practices in early childhood education and incorporates new strategies, materials and programs as appropriate.
Background/Formal Education/
Experience:
NYS certification in Early Childhood Education, Bachelor’s Degree in Early Childhood or related field with experience working with preschool children and children with special needs. Initial/Professional certification in Birth to Grade 2 by the NYS Education Department. Must complete 30 hours of OCFS training every 2 years with 15 hours completed during first 6 months of employment. Will be observed in work environment and evaluated at least annually by supervisor.
This is a temporary 3 month maternity leave cover position.
