The Medical Officer will lead clinical reviews, manage patient eligibility, oversee treatment pathways, and work closely with treating physicians to improve outcomes. The role involves ensuring high-quality TB care delivery, optimizing program operations, and guiding strategic improvements across partner institutions.
Primary Responsibilities
Clinical Review & Patient Management Review patient profiles from partner hospitals and assess eligibility for treatment support (first-line, second-line, MDR/XDR regimens, diagnostics, etc.).
Provide clinical recommendations on initiating, continuing, modifying, or escalating TB treatment based on severity, drug resistance patterns, and patient response.
Ensure appropriate diagnostic workup (Gene Xpert, sputum smears, imaging, cultures, DST) as per national guidelines.
Oversee monitoring of treatment progress, adverse reactions, adherence, and follow-up schedules.
Coordination with Treating Physicians Serve as the primary liaison with pulmonologists, chest physicians, infectious disease specialists, and TB center doctors.
Discuss complex cases (e.g., MDR/XDR, extrapulmonary TB, treatment failures) and offer second-opinion support when needed.
Ensure efficient and timely communication between treating teams and the Foundation for approvals, procurements, and treatment decisions.
Program Oversight & Quality Improvement Identify gaps in TB care delivery including diagnostics, drug availability, documentation, or follow-up and recommend corrective actions.
Ensure timely delivery and optimal utilization of TB medicines, diagnostics, and supportive services.
Data, Reporting & Insights Maintain updated treatment logs, patient registries, and adherence monitoring systems.
Review clinical and programmatic data to identify trends, bottlenecks, and opportunities for improvement.
Prepare structured reports and insights to guide decision-making and strengthen program impact.
Qualifications MBBS (required) ; MD/DNB in Pulmonary Medicine / Respiratory Medicine / Internal Medicine / Infectious Diseases strongly preferred.
Experience in TB management (DS-TB, DR-TB) is highly desirable.
Strong understanding of TB diagnostic algorithms, treatment guidelines, NTEP protocols, and patient monitoring.
Ability to interpret radiology, microbiology, and DST reports and provide evidence-based recommendations.
Travel Requirement Up to 30–40% travel for visits to partner hospitals, training sessions, and program assessments across India.
