Job Description

Aberdeen Hospital in New Glasgowis seeking a full-time Orthopedic Surgeon.

We are seeking a Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada certified orthopedic surgeon to join the team of six to fill a 1.0 full-time equivalency (FTE). The successful candidate will share the on-call rotation, existing OR allocation at Aberdeen Hospital, fracture clinic and Hip & Knee clinic.

The practice is general orthopedics and trauma call. An interest in primary and revision hip and knee arthroplasty, foot and ankle and/or sports medicine interest will be considered an asset.

Responsibilities
  • work as a full scope of practice orthopedic surgeon providing care to the patients within Northern Zone
  • participate in call shifts
  • support Nova Scotia Health in advancing the delivery of orthopedic surgery care by liaising with the applicable staff within the zone and province
  • be accountable to the patient population in Northern Zone by providing clinics
  • responsible to the Zone Surgery Department Head (or delegate) and Zone Medical Executive Director (ZMED) for their professional responsibilities and quality of practice
  • Provide care and coordination of community-based care, and secondary and tertiary level health care.
  • Participate in quality improvement and evaluation activities.

  • Remuneration amount
    -Approximately $525,000 per year, depends solely on your own clinical output

Aberdeen Hospital (AH), originally founded in 1895 andlocatedin the historic town of New Glasgow, is the regional acute care facility serving residents of Pictou County.

Completed in 2017, the emergency department at AH underwentan extensiveredevelopment to improve the layout and workflow of the existing space. All rooms are equipped with critical care equipment, and the 25,000 square-foot space features two isolation rooms and specialty rooms including triage rooms and two trauma bays with direct access to the helipad. The Level 2 emergency department provides 24/7 access to emergency services.

AH offers a wide range of primary and secondary services through inpatient, outpatient, and community-based services and programs.

New Glasgow has forged itself into the metropolitan hub of the Northumberland Shore. The town’s location on the East River made it an ideal launch point for ships that were once built here, a booming industry in days gone by. Today, the East River is a scenic backdrop fornumerousmulti-use trails that run alongside it.

The town’s downtown area is characterized by well-preserved Victorian architecture, housing a mix of boutiques,cafes,and local shops.
