Position Summary

North Country Healthcare (NCH) is seeking an experienced Director of Accounting to play an integral part in leading our health‑system managerial accounting team. We’re looking for an energetic, process‑improvement‑oriented individual with enthusiasm for developing people and expertise in overseeing critical managerial accounting. This position reports to the System Vice President of Financial Services. It regularly interacts with the CFO, as well as other leaders across the system to advance the strategic mission, vision, and values of the organization.

Education
  • Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field.
  • Master’s Degree preferred.
Essential Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field.
  • Master’s Degree preferred.
Certification/Licensure
  • Must possess a valid driver’s license.
  • Excellent English communication skills, both written and verbal.
  • Association accredited course in Basic Life Support (BLS) (for clinical staff), or Heartsaver CPR AED (for nonclinical staff), and renewal on a regular basis, with up to a three‑month grace period after the expiration date.
Skills
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office, particularly Excel.
  • Excellent English communication skills, both written and verbal.
Work Experience
  • Minimum of 5 years of experience in accounting or finance.
  • Healthcare experience is strongly preferred.
Essential Functions
  • Analyze current financial performance against historical data and forecasts.
  • Lead the annual budgeting process, including capital expenditure planning.
  • Oversee Medicare cost reporting.
  • Coordinate annual audit preparation with the Finance team.
  • Manage all filing submissions and reporting to agencies and government bodies.
  • Develop internal controls in coordination with the Finance team.
  • Prepare the annual budget.
  • Oversee annual tax filings.
  • Provide decision support to leadership.
  • Build and maintain relationships with operational leaders.
  • Standardize financial and statistical reporting across the health system.
  • Develop analytical tools to support decision‑making.
  • Enhance financial models for budgeting and forecasting.
  • Support the development of financial strategies.
  • Ensure compliance with financial regulations and standards.
