Automation Engineer II

Location: Charlestown, NH
DescriptionCreates, designs, tests and oversees the development of new automation systems and troubleshoots and maintains existing automation systems.
Key Responsibilities- Responsible for small projects or multiple tasks within functional discipline.
- Makes significant contributions to the team by applying knowledge of the discipline.
- Works with moderate guidance on projects with short-term focus.
- Works closely with leaders and operators to support continuous improvement.
- Communicates professionally with leadership, teammates and operations personnel using appropriate technical language and descriptions.
- Has a solid understanding of the fundamentals of the discipline and role—continuing to develop specialized knowledge.
- Works and communicates well with other members of the engineering team and with members of the production team.
- Troubleshoots and resolves minor issues with existing systems within the company.
- Works with operators, technicians and vendors as required to resolve troubleshooting issues with minimal guidance.
- Reads and interprets blueprints, technical drawings, schematics, datasheets and computer-generated reports.
- Confers with engineers and other personnel to implement operating procedures, resolve system malfunctions, and provide technical information.
- Is able to prioritize work to adapt to current company needs with minimal guidance.
- Creates schematics, blueprints, and work instructions for small to medium projects.
- Sources components and prepares specifications for purchase of materials and equipment.
- Operates computer-assisted engineering and design software and equipment to perform engineering tasks.
- Electrical/controls focused automation engineer:
- Beginner experience with programming new and troubleshooting existing elements of the following: PLCs, industrial computers, HMIs, drives, robots, etc.
- Integrates components of controls systems.
- Designs and works with low-power elements of controls systems.
- Designs and works with high-power elements of controls systems with minimal guidance.
- Use standard electrician’s tools to build new and troubleshoot existing controls systems.
- Specific equipment & software – Experience with brands listed is preferred, but the candidate is expected to have familiarity with comparable solutions to those listed:
Allen Bradley (Rockwell Automation) PLCs, motion controls, HMIs. Safety systems and sensors. ABB & Fanuc robots. Solid Works, Solid Works Electrical. Ignition HMI software and Allen Bradley Factory Talk View Studio ME & SE. Industrial vision systems – any brand. - Mechanical focused automation engineer:
- Integrate mechanical elements of a system.
- Design and manufacture mechanical elements of a cell with minimal guidance.
- Use standard mechanic’s tools to build new and troubleshoot/repair existing systems.
- Specific equipment & software: CNC mills and lathes, welding, basic fabrication, 3D printers. Familiarity with sheet metal and weldment design. Solid Works, CAM software (any).
- Requires knowledge and experience in own discipline; still acquiring higher level knowledge and skills.
- Builds knowledge of the organization, processes and customers.
- Solves a range of straightforward problems.
- Analyzes possible solutions using standard procedures.
- Receives a moderate level of guidance and direction.
- BA/BS degree w/3-6+ years’ experience or MA/MS degree w/0–3+ years’ experience or AA/AS/Technical School w/4-8+ years’ experience.
