JOB SUMMARY:
Under general direction of the Director, is directly responsible for a wide variety of duties to help meet the pharmaceutical and day to day operational needs of the organization and it’s patients according professional principles and standards, and for maintaining compliance with federal, state and local codes and regulations.
DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:
Safety & Infection Control:
- Enforce all infection control and safety policies within the pharmacy.
- Attend in-service, committee, and other meetings as assigned. Collaborate with medical and nursing staff on drug therapy, order clarifications, control of narcotics, and medication error procedures.
Clinical Pharmacy
- Participate in daily multidisciplinary rounds ensuring optimal patient care utilizing the most current clinical practice guidelines
- Complete medication intervention and pharmacy care notes in the Electronic Health Record.
- Provide consults upon request to Cottage Hospital providers on pharmacokinetic monitoring, antibiotic use, anticoagulation, and drug information questions.
Pharmacy Operations:
- Maintain the unit dose system and ensure all nursing personnel understand its use.
- Uphold department standards, routines, and workflows for prompt, accurate order processing.
- Maintain accurate records of all drugs, including controlled substances.
- Ensure compliance with USP 797/800 for sterile compounding
Inventory Management:
- Assist pharmacy buyer and act as backup as needed: place orders, check merchandise against purchase orders, and send invoices to the Business Office.
- Manage inventory in pharmacy and Automated Dispensing Cabinets, and other departments by organizing stock to ensure optimal quantities are available as needed
Monthly Inspections:
- Assist the pharmacy technician when needed in inspection of medication storage across departments monthly.
Daily Pharmacy Functions:
- Manage the pharmacy Oracle Pharmacy Suite of applications to verify orders, ensure charge capture, and optimize Cottage Hospital’s Medication Use System.
- Prepare and Verify unit dosed, bulk, and non-hazardous sterile final products as needed
- Supervise and support day to day operations of Pharmacy Technicians
- Maintain cleanliness of equipment, handle correspondence, answer calls, and perform clerical duties.
Bachelors or Pharm
D in pharmacy
Experience in an acute-care setting
Board of Pharmacy Specialties Certification Preferred
Licenses & CertificationsRequired
