The OR Circulating Nurse (RN) is a licensed professional responsible for the delivery of safe, effective, and compassionate care to surgical patients in the perioperative setting. Reporting to the Director of Perioperative Services, this role includes collaboration with the surgical team to ensure high-quality care and optimal patient outcomes. The RN circulator is immediately available to support and intervene as needed during surgical procedures and throughout the patient’s perioperative journey.
KeyDuties & Responsibilities Surgery Duties:
- Prepare operating rooms and verify surgical instruments and equipment are sterile and available.
- Assist in the setup and execution of surgical procedures, including patient positioning and prepping.
- Maintain accurate preference cards and ensure compliance with infection control and safety protocols.
- Participate in quality improvement activities and represent the department on hospital committees.
- Conduct thorough preoperative assessments to ensure readiness.
- Support anesthesia induction and monitor patient status intraoperatively.
- Provide patient and family education during discharge and recovery phases.
- Perform equipment and supply readiness checks daily.
- Deliver post-anesthesia monitoring and support during recovery.
- Manage patient transitions and documentation per hospital protocols.
- Carry out pre-admission testing and documentation.
- Provide comprehensive pre- and post-operative nursing care.
- Ensure clear discharge planning and follow-up instruction delivery.
Associates or better in Nursing or related field.
ExperiencePerioperative nursing experience strongly preferred
Licenses & CertificationsACLS
Basic Life Support
RN License
