Under general supervision of designated supervisor, perform the work requiring skill in the trade of plumbing/pipe fitting for the installation, maintenance, and repair of heating and plumbing systems.

Position may be either a Master or Journeyman. Responsible for providing excellent customer service and producing the highest quality of work. All plumbers are expected to act as department leaders and will mentor apprentice personnel. Provide expertise in the plumbing field for troubleshooting complex issues in addition to providing the services, knowledge, and responsibilities exclusive to the plumbing/pipefitter trade.

UNH Facilities is a 24/7/365 operation and has responsibilities related to campus safety and emergency response. Due to the nature of our business, employees may be asked to flex schedules and/or respond to requests outside of normal working hours in order to meet the demands of the university. This may include early morning, evening, weekend, and holiday work as needed.



Job Duties

Service calls and customer service:

  • Respond to service calls and requests related to the operation, repair, maintenance, installation and removal of plumbing related equipment (including dining specific equipment).
  • Ensure work is of the highest quality while meeting all plumbing codes and safety requirements.
  • Repair heating, plumbing, steam, water and drainage systems (pipes, valves, pumps/motors, tanks, etc.).
  • Troubleshoot minor and complex plumbing issues and provide expert knowledge on solutions.
  • Utilize electronic sources of trouble shooting and problem identification software.
  • Provide exceptional customer service by responding to requests in a timely manner (according to priority time frames), communicating status to the customer, and following up when the work is complete.
  • Using the work management software, maintain accurate records of work completed, materials used, and time expended.
  • Participate in the on-call rotation and respond to emergency situations, including during off hours, as needed.
Preventative Maintenance And Project Work

  • Perform preventive maintenance activities on University plumbing equipment, including inspection and hands on preventive maintenance needs.
  • Update and maintain records in the work management software and provide equipment condition assessments.
  • Participate and provide expertise in project management meetings regarding equipment replacement, renovations and new building plans.
  • Complete other plumbing assignments as designated.
Leadership And Mentorship To The Facilities Division

  • Participate, support and demonstrate Facilities Forward concepts which contribute to a positive work culture.
  • Demonstrate leadership qualities during work activities.
  • Mentor, develop and train apprentices and new employees.
  • Oversee and provide feedback about contractors working on campus in the field of plumbing as needed.
Safety And Training

  • Follow all plumbing and gas codes and recognized policies/procedures, techniques and safety precautions in the performance of your Plumbing duties.
  • Keep current on all required safety trainings, code license updates, and any certifications required.
  • Continuously seek out professional development opportunities that will benefit the University and your technical skills to stay current and knowledgeable of best practices and future trends and technologies.


Minimum Qualifications

  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Valid motor vehicle operator’s license and DOT medical card (if applicable based on assigned vehicle weight).
