Group Fitness Instructor (for active older adults) Description
Join us at the YMCA in making a positive impact on the community year round. Our programs are focused on personal growth, leadership development, and community building for all participants. As a Group Fitness Instructor, you will provide instruction and leadership for programs within Exeter Area YMCA, ensuring that program participants receive a quality experience in a safe environment.
This part‑time role supports the work of the Y, a leading nonprofit, charitable organization committed to strengthening the community through youth development, healthy living and social responsibility. You will lead group classes for older active adults in a safe, enjoyable, and positive environment that welcomes all skill and fitness levels. Instructors are responsible for effectively building community within classes and are required to modify classes as needed to meet varied health, ability, and community needs.
Hours are limited to a few hours per week.
- Provide exceptional customer service.
- Integrate the mission of the YMCA and follow the core values of honesty, caring, respect and responsibility into the healthy living aspect of all classes.
- Lead energizing, fun, safe, and educational group fitness classes for older active adults.
- Maintain a working knowledge of industry and wellness trends to provide effective information and support to members.
- Build effective and authentic relationships with members to assist them in connecting with each other and the YMCA.
- Promote programs, classes and services to all members and encourage cross training and fun activity to attain individual health and wellness goals.
- Help maintain a safe, organized and clean class area.
- Must complete all required YMCA trainings (at hire, within 30 days of hire and annual trainings).
- Adhere to policies related to boundaries with consumers.
- Attend required abuse risk management training.
- Report suspicious or inappropriate behaviors and policy violations.
- Follow mandated abuse reporting requirements.
- Other duties as assigned.
- Professional certification and ongoing required training to maintain certification through a nationally recognized organization or equivalent for classes being taught.
- CPR and First Aid Certification or ability to obtain within 30 days of DOJ (or DOI).
- Superb customer service skills.
- Ability to physically perform all physical motions of the exercise being led.
- Ability to stand for long periods of time.
- Ability to bend, kneel, push, and pull.
- Ability to lift up to 20 lbs.
- Ability to speak concisely and effectively communicate needs.
- Ability to respond to critical incidents and act swiftly in emergency situations.
