Southern’s Department of Curriculum and Learning seeks applicants for a full‑time, tenure‑track position at the Assistant level to begin August 2026. The successful candidate will teach undergraduate and graduate courses in the initial certification teacher preparation programs and the graduate MS program in Curriculum and Instruction, with a focus on child development, educational psychology, research methods, and learning theories.

Required Qualifications
  • Earned doctorate or ABD (must earn doctorate by end of first year of appointment) in Educational Psychology, Child Development, Learning Sciences, or a closely related field,
  • Expertise in areas of learning theory, motivation, human development, child and adolescent psychology, cognition, atypical human development, or similar areas,
  • Minimum 3 years full time relevant preK-12 teaching experience,
  • Evidenced ability to teach university level courses in child development, educational psychology, research methods, curriculum development, and instructional design,
  • Evidenced potential in leadership within teacher education programs,
  • Knowledge of culturally sustaining pedagogies,
  • Strong demonstrated potential for scholarly activity leading to peer‑reviewed publications, external grants or other support, and conference presentations.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience teaching in schools that serve diverse student populations
  • Evidence of potential for leadership and collaborative engagement with school and community organizations
  • Demonstrated effectiveness in teaching on campus and online instructional modalities
  • Experience engaging in the process of educational program assessment and improvement, preferably as it relates to program accreditation
