Overview
Reporting to the Manager of Financial Analysis for the FAS, this Financial Assistant provides high‑level financial and administrative support for the Faculty of Arts and Sciences finance team and serves as a central resource within FAS, Yale College, and the Graduate School. The role centrally supports units, assists with managing research accounts, payroll accounting adjustments, and journal entries, and helps the Manager and finance team with various financial projects as necessary.

- Ability to run financial reports from systems such as Workday, Power
BI, and YBT. - Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Excel for developing spreadsheets.
- Understanding of PSCA, soul source, and statement of work requirements.
- Excellent attendance, punctuality, and exceptional communication skills.
- Strong customer service skills and the ability to work independently or in a team.
- Proficiency in Workday: creating requisitions, journal entries, reading portfolio reports, and using Word and Excel to compile data, sort data, and create pivot tables.
Skills and Abilities
- Strong knowledge of Yale University policies and procedures related to financials such as checklists, travel guidelines, reimbursements, honoraria, and others for both sponsored and non‑sponsored funds.
- Experience using Workday financials.
- Prior experience in a higher education setting providing financial support to faculty, staff, and students.
- Draft preliminary financial sections of proposals.
- Review all proposals for accuracy, completeness, and compliance to grantor and University requirements and regulations.
- Monitor, control, and maintain financial activity of accounts; ensure expenditures are posted to proper accounts; identify, research, and correct questionable expenditures.
- Serve as the principal source of information on financial policies, procedures, and activity.
- Reconcile and analyze financial statements; prepare standardized and specialized financial reports and analyses.
- Oversee and instruct support staff.
- Oversee the maintenance of financial records and files.
- Assist with the development and implementation of systems and procedures.
- May calculate weekly payroll for department staff.
- Perform clerical functions incidental to accounting activities.
Education and Experience
Six years of related work experience, four of them in the same job family at the next lower level, and a high school level education; or four years of related work experience and an Associate degree; or little or no work experience and a Bachelor degree in a related field; or an equivalent combination of experience and education.
