Health Advocate at LULAC Head Start Inc.
The Health Advocate will support the Health Manager in a variety of tasks to meet quality assurance and compliance in the Health department across the agency. This is an entry level position with an opportunity to grow within the agency.
Responsibilities- Collaborate with the Health department and Social Service team to support enrollment of children into the program and provide support in health services while enrolled.
- Maintain children’s records to ensure compliance with health and nutritional needs.
- Review and update children files, including data entry, filing, and communicating physical dental notices to parents.
- Conduct health screenings (vision, hearing, height and weight) and assist with dental screening under the supervision of the health manager or nurse consultant.
- Work with families on child referral processes and follow up.
- Support efforts to refer families for follow-up with medical and dental care.
- Assist families in obtaining a complete medical, dental and developmental history for each child.
- Maintain logs and inventory of health and nutrition supplies for classrooms.
- Conduct monthly safety checks of physical environment and playgrounds; complete reports and follow up with facilities as needed.
- Monitor First Aid kits and follow up as needed.
- Under the supervision of the health manager, monitor children’s medications, medication administration documents and care plans and follow up as needed.
- Conduct monthly safety drills, report on drills and provide follow-up as needed.
- Support accuracy of Health data.
- Collaborate with the Health Manager to educate teaching staff on children’s health and nutritional needs.
- Communicate with the LULAC team, parents, and children to provide information related to health and nutrition.
- Participate in professional development (attending meetings, workshops, conferences, etc.).
- Perform other tasks as assigned.
- Graduation from a recognized college or university with an Associate’s Degree with a concentration in Health and Nutrition or certification in a related field.
- Alternative combinations of training and/or experience that demonstrate likely possession of required skills, knowledge and abilities may be considered.
- Bilingual (English–Spanish) preferred.
