Under the supervision of the Diagnostic Radiology Manager and/or Assistant Chief Technologist, the candidate performs a wide variety of technical and professional duties utilizing complex imaging equipment to produce quality radiographic images as requested for subsequent interpretation by the radiologist. All duties are performed according to departmental and organizational policies and procedures, and promote service excellence in all interactions as outlined in the Key Behaviors in the YNHH Core Success Factors.

To meet the staffing needs of the department, as necessary, Diagnostic Radiology staff may be assigned at any of the YNHH Diagnostic Radiology locations, regardless of your regularly assigned work location.

Responsibilities
  • Perform quality and efficient diagnostic radiographic examinations, utilizing appropriate protocols and age‑specific standards.
  • Verify physician’s orders on requisitions 100% of the time.
  • Operate radiographic equipment to ensure proper technical results.
  • Conduct daily inspection of radiographic equipment to ensure proper performance and image quality.
  • Prepare the examination room to ensure a clean and safe environment with adequate supplies to assure efficient and accurate performance of exams.
  • Replace any used supplies immediately after the patient is discharged.
  • Provide quality and compassionate patient care, utilizing appropriate age‑specific standards, to ensure patient cooperation, safety, and satisfaction.
  • Explain the procedure thoroughly to ensure patient physical and emotional comfort.
  • Perform various record‑keeping and customer‑service functions, and communicate feedback to ensure department goals are met and operations run efficiently.
  • Accurately edit and complete all examinations in Imagecast to ensure proper medical record documentation and billing.
  • Participate in teaching and/or learning opportunities to further personal knowledge and assist in expanding the knowledge of others.
  • Be receptive to teaching new technologists, students, and residents.
  • Help enhance the patient experience in Diagnostic Radiology by achieving patient satisfaction scores set by the department on the Test & Treatment section of our Press Ganey Survey.
  • Present oneself in a friendly and courteous manner, identify oneself and one's role while encouraging a patient‑and‑family‑centered experience.
  • Explain the procedure fully and ask if the patient has any additional questions.
  • Address any comfort issues a patient may have prior to starting the procedure.
  • Thank the patient once the procedure is completed and ask if the patient has any additional questions.
  • Meet the above goals and fiscal‑year threshold values required for patient satisfaction ratings.
Qualifications

EDUCATION

Graduation from an A.M.A.‑approved Radiologic Technology program. An AS degree is preferred but not required with relevant years of experience.

EXPERIENCE

Demonstrated technical skills to meet entry‑level standards of routine radiography, RT(R) certification by the American Registry of Radiologic Technologists (ARRT), Connecticut State License, and CPR Certification preferred.

LICENSURE

ARRT and Connecticut State License.

SPECIAL SKILLS

Proficient in routine radiography CR/Digital imaging techniques, above average knowledge of computer/PACS applications, and strong organizational and communication/customer‑service skills.

PHYSICAL DEMAND

Must be able to lift a minimum of 40 pounds to assist with patient transfers.
