Overview

The Automation Engineer is responsible for developing, implementing, and supporting enterprise automation solutions across Foundation Technology Services (FTS). The position focuses on building and maintaining reusable automation for infrastructure provisioning, configuration management, application delivery, monitoring, and operational workflows.

Working within established architectural patterns and engineering standards, the Automation Engineer will use technologies such as Terraform, Ansible Automation Platform, Service Now, CI/CD tooling, Red Hat Open Shift, and Datadog to automate services across compute, networking, storage, virtualization, security, and application platforms.

The role requires broad infrastructure knowledge, strong troubleshooting skills, and an Infrastructure-as-Code mindset. The engineer will collaborate with technical teams across FTS to convert manual processes into reliable, maintainable, and auditable automation.

  • Build and maintain Infrastructure-as-Code using Terraform and configuration automation using Ansible and Ansible Automation Platform, following established standards and reusable patterns.
  • Implement integrations between Service Now and automation workflows so approved requests can trigger standardized, auditable infrastructure and service delivery.
  • Develop and maintain CI/CD and Git Ops pipelines using technologies such as Git Hub Actions, Jenkins, Argo CD, and AAP.
  • Build and support automation for Red Hat Open Shift, including containerized applications, virtual machines, networking, storage, and related platform services.
  • Integrate Datadog monitoring and observability into automated deployments so supported infrastructure and applications enter service with appropriate monitoring, logging, health checks, and alerting.
  • Automate enterprise infrastructure services including networking, firewalls, load balancing, DNS/IPAM, storage, virtualization, identity, and security integrations using APIs and supported automation interfaces.
  • Troubleshoot automation failures, platform integrations, and deployment issues across multiple infrastructure domains and work with service owners to improve reliability and supportability.
  • Contribute to reusable modules, documentation, testing, runbooks, and engineering standards that allow other FTS teams to consume and extend supported automation capabilities.
