About the Role
Job Purpose:
Execute day-to-day regional equipment repositioning, local inventory control, depot and terminal coordination and equipment cost management. This role supports regional empty container repositioning, ensures optimal local container availability while minimizing equipment operating costs.
Key Responsibilities
1. Equipment Planning & Inventory Control
Inventory Monitoring:
Monitor and manage local container inventories (dry reefer, and special equipment) to ensure supply meets cargo booking demands while avoiding excess inventory.Empty Repositioning:
Execute empty container repositioning requests to support regional container requirements.Off-Hire Management:
Coordinate with container leasing companies to arrange for timely off-hiring of units.Container Re-Use Authorization:
Oversee and approve container re-use requests, verifying that units are structurally sound for the next cargo load. Ensure the accurate transfer of financial liability (outstanding demurrage, or detention) between trucking companies and update systems to prevent tracking gaps.
2. Cost Management & Invoice Auditing
Expense Management:
Control, audit, and verify equipment-related expenses including trucking, storage, depot gate-in/out charges, and detention & demurrage commissions before final approval.Work Order Creation:
Generate work orders and actively identify cost-saving opportunities through optimized storage or trucking arrangements and efficient depot utilization.Tracking:
Follow up on outstanding demurrage and detention collection directly with depots.
3. Depot, Terminal, & System Coordination
Long-Stay Management:
Follow up with respective depots and terminals regarding long-stay containers to reduce idling and minimize storage costs.Real-Time Data Tracking:
Monitor EDI transmissions from terminals and depots to ensure the internal container tracking system is updated in real time.
4. Reporting & Process Improvement
Data Reporting:
Prepare monthly data reports and leverage data analytics to
improve forecasting accuracy and operational visibility.
Qualification
At least a Diploma or Degree in Logistics, Supply Chain, Maritime Studies, or related field of study.
Job Requirements
Preferably with at least 10 years of relevant experience in a similar role.
Hands-on experience in equipment planning, inventory control, and empty container repositioning.
Experience and familiarity with Portnet and EDI/OPUS systems is a plus.
Solid background in managing costs, auditing invoices, and controlling expenses.
Experience coordinating with depots, terminals, and logistics partners.
Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with a sharp eye for detail to make smart operational decisions.
Proficiency in MS Office (especially intermediate / advanced Excel) and Google Workspace.
