Provides exceptional direct diagnostic and therapeutic care to women throughout the life cycle in the nurse midwifery model of care in both the office setting and labor and birth. The CNM works in collaboration with the attending physician as part of a multidisciplinary team. Cultivates a patient centric environment which focuses on the whole individual inclusive of physical, psychosocial, spiritual and functional needs of the patient, family and significant others.
Serves as the focal professional for the continuity of care in patient care within scope of practice standards, as well as specialty specific standards to address and resolve problems that may arise.

Responsibilities- Clinical Care:
Provide full scope midwifery care as outlined in the Core Competencies for Basic Midwifery practice developed by the American College of Nurse-Midwives in outpatient and inpatient settings. - Patient Education & Psychosocial Support:
Educate patient/families on care and recommended or available resources. In collaboration with the collaborating MD, this may be inclusive of admitting, instructions, treatment plan, actual and potential side effects of treatment/medications and discharge plans. - Information Management:
Ensure appropriate documentation in accordance with hospital and regulatory requirements and protect information of all forms, whether computer-based, paper, film, voice, or other media, from unauthorized access, modification, destruction, or intentional or accidental disclosure. - Quality Management:
Demonstrate a high standard of moral and ethical behavior, professionalism, compassion, and commitment to patient care. - Staff
Education:
Serve as a clinical resource for new resident staff and may provide service specific orientation pertinent to clinical evaluation. - Professional Development:
Maintain certification through the American Midwifery Certification Board.
Education
- Graduate of an accredited Nurse Midwifery program—Certificate, Master’s, or Doctoral Program.
Experience
- Graduation from an accredited Certified Nurse Midwife Program.
Licensure
- Certification from the American Midwifery Certification Board.
- Connecticut State Licensed Nurse Midwife license.
- Connecticut State Registered Nurse License.
- BLS/NRP certified.
- DEA license.
- State of Connecticut Controlled Substance License.
- Complete Electronic Fetal Monitoring course every 2 years.
Special Skills
- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills.
- Knowledge of research methods.
- Computer skills required.
Physical Demand
- Possesses physical and mental health necessary to care for patients and families.
- Possesses a full range of body motion, including lifting and handling of patients.
