Essential Duties and Responsibilities
  • Assist customers and donors in a timely and courteous manner, ensuring excellent customer service.
  • Maximize used goods processing through sorting, preparing, and pricing items for sale to meet or exceed production goals.
  • Maintain cleanliness and safety of store premises; report unsafe conditions to supervisory staff.
  • Assist with unloading trucks, sorting and grading newly arrived goods.
  • Assist Store Manager in training new employees according to agency and store policies and procedures.
  • Maintain production areas to ensure ease of operations.
  • Comply with cash handling and security policies; close out register for daily total, confirm correct amount, notify supervisor of any discrepancy, and make nightly deposit to the designated bank as required.
  • Act as store supervisor in the absence of the Store Manager and Assistant Manager by opening and closing the store, directing staff activities, ensuring adherence to agency policies, CARF standards, safety and security regulations, and that all sales transactions are rung up and reported accurately.
  • Ensure donated goods are processed appropriately; order store supplies, arrange truck deliveries, and verify security of the building.
  • Maintain store records and immediately report any suspicions or allegations of fraud to supervisor.
  • Assist with bank transactions necessary to store operations, such as depositing daily receipts and securing rolled coins or specific denominations of bills.
  • Respond to alarm calls as an Alarm Responder Roster member, following established procedures and maintaining personal telephone service.
Qualifications

Education and Experience
  • High school diploma or general education degree (GED) plus a minimum of one year related experience and/or training.
  • Must be at least 18 years of age.
Language Skills
  • Ability to read and comprehend simple instructions, short correspondence, and memos.
  • Ability to speak effectively with customers, clients and other employees of the organization.
Mathematical Skills
  • Ability to add and subtract two‑digit numbers and to multiply and divide using units of American money.
Reasoning Ability
  • Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out simple instructions and deal with standardized situations with little or no variables.

  • Effective delegation of tasks to store personnel.
  • High level of integrity and business ethics.
Physical Demands
  • Regular standing, walking, talking, and hearing; frequent use of hands and arms to handle, feel and reach.
  • Occasional sitting, climbing, balancing, stooping, kneeling, crouching or crawling.
  • Frequent lifting and moving up to 25 pounds and occasionally up to 100 pounds; pushing crates up to 600 pounds.
  • Assisting customers with unloading bags and boxes, and placing large items on the sales floor.
Protective Equipment Requirements
  • Protective eyewear during floor cleaning and dispensing fluids.
  • Protective gloves and eyewear during use of push stick and trash compactor.
  • Latex gloves may be provided for sorting credentials but are not required.
Work Environment
  • Fast‑paced retail setting with regular deadlines and production quotas.
  • Exposure to wet or humid conditions, fumes, chemicals, outside weather conditions, and electrical shock risk.
  • Moderate noise level typical of a busy retail environment.
