The Cashier participates in retail sales and cash register transactions within the cafeteria. Responsibilities include operating the cash register, engaging customers with excellent service, handling cash, and maintaining the dining area. All tasks are performed under direct supervision, following departmental procedures and specific task assignments.

Responsibilities- Operate the computerized cash register and peripheral equipment (e.g., scale) to calculate the cost of food and beverages. Provide excellent service, acknowledging, greeting, and thanking each customer, and handle cash and charge transactions accurately.
- Verify cash drawer contents, maintain cash security, and reconcile the cash drawer at shift end with a supervisor.
- Maintain knowledge of cafeteria products, their prices, and locations. Answer routine customer questions regarding food, beverage, and payment transactions.
- Set up equipment and supplies needed for food service prep and keep the condiment area well stocked and clean. Empty trash receptacles in the work area.
- Follow sanitation and personal hygiene guidelines to prevent the spread of food‑borne illness. Keep the work area clean, wash hands properly, clean and sanitize equipment, and use/ store cleaning agents safely.
Education – High School graduate or equivalent. Understanding of basic dietary principles is preferred. Completion of all 10 modules of Customer Service Training required.
Experience – Six months of food & nutrition experience, preferably in a hospital setting.
Special Skills – Demonstrated ability to read, write, and understand English; legible handwriting. Outstanding interpersonal and customer‑relations skills. Ability to work with minimal supervision, use independent judgment, and solve problems. Proficiency in operating a computerized cash register, securing and handling cash, and basic cash‑management procedures. Ability to safely use cleaning equipment and supplies.
Physical Demand – Light to moderate activity. Stand and walk >4 hours/day; lift, push, and pull carts, pallets, and food supplies up to 30 pounds (or constantly 10 pounds). Work environment may involve exposure to extreme temperatures, dirt, dust, fumes, smoke, odors, or loud noises. Use of cleaning chemicals requires Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) provided.
