Eligibility Services Specialist
Hybrid position; locations include Bridgeport, Danbury, Hartford, Manchester, Middletown (Windham), New Britain, New Haven, Norwich, Stamford, Torrington, Waterbury, & Willimantic. Salary: $66,733 - $83,328 per year.
Position Highlights- Full-time, 40 hours per week
- First shift (Monday – Friday, 8:30 a.m. – 5:00 p.m.)

The class is accountable for acting as a working supervisor and policy specialist, providing eligibility services to clients of the department’s assistance programs, and supporting clients toward self‑direction, self‑reliance, and independent living.
Examples of Duties- Plan unit workflow and determine priorities.
- Schedule, assign, oversee, and review work.
- Establish and maintain unit procedures.
- Provide staff training and assistance, including monitoring and assessing needs.
- Conduct or assist in performance evaluations.
- Act as liaison with operating units, agencies, and outside officials regarding unit policies.
- Provide technical and procedural support to staff.
- Act as liaison with Eligibility Services Supervisor concerning training needs and workflow effectiveness.
- Act as unit policy specialist on complex case resolution.
- Facilitate resolution of systems and data problems.
- Provide eligibility and/or vocational services to clients on individual caseloads.
- Conduct in‑depth interviews with applicants facing eligibility challenges.
- Evaluate clients’ financial needs and stabilize economic situations.
- Review eligibility periodically to ensure correct benefit levels.
- Conduct comprehensive social services assessment to identify employability barriers.
- Provide eligibility, employment, and supportive services to reduce barriers and promote self‑sufficiency.
