About the RoleHopkins School is seeking an enthusiastic and experienced coach to lead our Girls Varsity Field Hockey program. This role, reporting to the Director of Athletics, is responsible for overseeing all aspects of the team, including player development, practice and game planning, and fostering a positive and competitive team culture. The coach will serve as a mentor to student-athletes and work collaboratively with the athletic department to ensure a rewarding and educational athletic experience.
Duties- Develop Training Plans:
Create and implement practice schedules and drills to enhance athlete performance and prepare the team for competition. - Manage Team Performance:
Monitor and evaluate athletes’ progress, providing constructive feedback and support. - Maintain Discipline and Safety:
Enforce rules, ensure player safety, and promote a positive, inclusive, and respectful team environment. - Mentorship and Support:
Offer occasional guidance to lower-level coaches and teams within the program. - Communicate with Stakeholders:
Keep parents, school administration, and athletes informed about team progress, needs, and expectations. - Monitor Health and Fitness:
Work with athletic training staff to support athlete conditioning and manage injuries or wellness concerns. - Represent the Program:
Attend league meetings, postseason tournaments, and school admission events as a representative of Hopkins Athletics.
- Preseason practices begin in mid-August and run Monday–Saturday for two weeks, with times varying based on facility availability.
- Regular season practices are held from 3:45–5:30 PM on Mondays, Tuesdays, Thursdays, and Fridays. On Wednesdays, the school day ends at 1:30 PM with practice to follow.
- Games are typically held on Wednesdays and Saturdays, with occasional games on other weekdays. Approximately 50% of contests are away games; coaches are required to travel with the team.
- Special events requiring additional hours include two league meetings (Zoom) per season, postseason tournaments, and Admission Open House or Admitted Student events.
- Candidates should have strong knowledge and experience in field hockey and the ability to teach, mentor, and motivate student-athletes.
- Strong communication, organization, and leadership skills are essential, as is a high degree of professionalism and enthusiasm.
