Mental Health Technician (PRN) – Iberia Medical Center

Iberia Medical Center (IMC) in New Iberia, LA is looking for Mental Health Technicians [MHT] for IMC Behavioral Health on a PRN basis. A MHT supports nursing staff, provides direct care, and engages in patient transportation, multidisciplinary team conferences, case management, discharge planning, intake, referral, and other duties while maintaining a safe and professional standard of care in compliance with Joint Commission, Federal and State regulations, and IMC policies.

• High School Graduate or equivalent with CNA certification or at least six months of prior bedside, direct patient care experience in a healthcare setting.
• Mental Health Technician Certification preferred (MHTC, CMHT, NCPT).

• Communicate and document patient observations and data effectively in the patient record.
• Customize patient care activities to meet individual needs (age, disability, cultural sensitivity, etc.).
• Document significant occurrences, observed behavior, vital signs, nutrition, and patient observation findings for assigned patients.
• Inventory patient belongings and assist with laundry, meals, mobility needs, and bathroom functions.
• Employ de‑escalation and therapeutic interventions as needed.
• Assist the nurse or therapist with discharge planning and after‑care follow‑up as assigned.
• Effectively communicate with nursing staff in a timely manner.
• Comply with IMC’s precaution and infection control policies.
