Assistant Lower School Director of Academics

Join the Pingry School as an Assistant Lower School Director of Academics, reporting to the Lower School Director and serving as a critical member of the Lower School leadership team. This role oversees the K–5 academic program, fostering a culture of professional learning and ensuring alignment across curriculum, standards, assessment, and reporting.

Responsibilities
  • Model and reinforce the Pingry Honor Code and Lower School Code of Honor.
  • Keep current with best practices in elementary education, focusing on foundational student competencies.
  • Articulate and advance research‑based pedagogical strategies in a K–5 setting.
  • Support alignment and developmental progression of standards in the K–5 curriculum.
  • Support the implementation of multiple modes of student assessment.
  • Lead ongoing cycles of curriculum review and assessment practices to ensure coherence and effectiveness across K–5.
  • Design and implement a coherent professional development plan, guide teacher evaluation and growth processes, and oversee curriculum mapping, schedule considerations, and academic reporting.
  • Engage faculty through regular 1:1 touchpoints, active listening, and trust‑building to align priorities and classroom practice.
  • Assist with designing faculty teaching schedules, student homerooms, and class schedules, and direct curriculum coordinators and specialists.
  • Observe and coach faculty to support instructional growth and serve as hiring partner for Lower School roles.
  • Direct specialists in scheduling and administering standardized tests, oversee family communication related to academics, monitor student progress, and coordinate supports or interventions.
  • Build strong relationships with families through proactive communication and design parent‑facing presentations.
  • Participate in Lower School admissions committees, support admissions weekends and information sessions.
  • Collaborate with the Lower School Director and Middle School Director to facilitate transition of students, serve on the K–12 Academic Committee, and advance curriculum alignment.
  • Collaborate with the Experiential Education and DEIB teams to align cross‑campus initiatives.
  • Partner with the Assistant Director for Student Life, Dean of Students, and lower school leadership team on culture, student‑life programming, and shared meetings.
  • Assist with curating summer academic resources and identifying opportunities for summer programs.
Qualifications
  • Master’s degree required; advanced degree preferred.
  • Teaching experience, preferably across lower and upper elementary grade levels.
  • At least five years of school leadership experience, including people management.
  • Enthusiasm for working with elementary educators and students.
  • Strong leadership, facilitation, collaboration, coordination, and project management skills.
  • Demonstrated success in elementary curriculum design, implementation, and evaluation.
  • Experience mentoring teachers through observation, coaching, and professional learning.
  • Strategic thinking and ability to lead faculty professional development.
  • Ability to work effectively across grade levels and disciplines, building partnerships and connecting resources.
  • Strong relationship‑building skills across faculty, staff, students, and parents.
  • Strong interpersonal skills, constructive outlook, and creative problem‑solving.
  • Commitment to intellectual engagement, stewardship, sustainability, and inclusive school community; ease working with diverse constituencies.
Compensation and Benefits

Salary range: $100,000 – $140,000; final compensation based on experience and education.
