Upper Level Literature and Writing Teacher

The Lawrenceville School announces a possible opening for a full‑time English teacher. We are seeking enthusiastic, energetic, collegial individuals who want to work with both adults and high school students in a collaborative and inclusive academic setting. The English Department encourages students to develop a love of reading, a facility and pleasure in writing, and an appreciation for literature as a way to understand themselves and the world.
Responsibilities- Teach four sections (two to three prep classes) per trimester, approximately 40-50 students.
- Coach two seasons of interscholastic or other co‑curricular activity, including at least one season of interscholastic coaching.
- Advise five to eight students.
- Participate in one evening per week of “House duty,” providing supervision in a student residence from 6‑11:30 pm.
- Fulfill residential housing requirements as outlined by the school.
- Chaperone a weekend activity (e.g., dance, coffee house) at least once per term.
- Work within the department and the broader school to foster community, belonging, and support the School’s anti‑racist commitments.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
- M.A. in English, M.Ed. with a BA in English.
- At least seven years of high school teaching experience in an ELA or English classroom.
- Ability to teach across a range of literatures, periods, and genres; both introductory and advanced courses.
- Experience in curriculum and assessment development.
- Demonstrated success teaching writing and the writing process, facilitating collaborative discussion‑based classes, and providing timely, effective feedback.
- Strong interpersonal, organizational, and communication (oral and written) skills.
- Proficient computer skills, including Google Suite and Microsoft Office.
- Ability to work collaboratively and independently as needed.
- Passion for teaching literature and writing and dedication to working with high‑school students.
- Physical demands require standing, walking, and lifting up to 25 lbs; must remain on feet for extended periods.
- Operating standard office equipment and using a visual display terminal.
- Will work outside normal working hours as required.

Benefits and SalarySalary: $55,000.00 – $79,000.00 annually, based on experience and qualifications. Competitive benefits include health insurance, paid leave, and retirement plan options.
