constant Level Literature and Writing Teacher
The Lawrenceville School announces a possible opening for a full‑time English teacher. We are seeking enthusiastic, energetic, collegial individuals who want to work with both adults and high‑school students in a collaborative and inclusive academic setting. The English Department encourages students to develop a love of reading, a facility and pleasure in writing, and an appreciation for literature as a way to understand themselves and the world.
EssentialResponsibilities
- Teach four sections/two to three preps per trimester (approximately 40–50 students).
- Two seasons of coaching or equivalent co‑curricular commitment, including at least one season of interscholastic coaching (or the equivalent).
- Advise five to eight students.
- One evening a week of “House duty,” providing supervision in a student residence from 6–11:30 pm partea .
- Faculty who reside in School‑provided housing are expected to spend eight years living in one of the residential houses at some point in their career; although not necessarily starting their first year.
- Chaperone a weekend activity (dance, coffee house, etc.) at least once per term.
- Work within the department and in the broader school to foster community and belonging and to support the School’s anti‑racist commitments.
- Work professionally and cooperatively within the department, the School, and the broader Lawrenceville community.
- Other duties as assigned.
- M.A. in English, or M.Ed. with BA in English.
- At least seven years’ high‑school teaching experience in an ELA or English classroom.
- Ability to teach across a range of literatures, periods, and genres.
- Ability to teach both introductory and advanced courses in English.
- Experience in curriculum and assessment development.
- Demonstrated success teaching writing and the writing process.
- Demonstrated success facilitating collaborative, student‑centered, discussion‑based classes.
- Demonstrated success in providing timely, effective student feedback.
- A passion for teaching literature and writing.
- Demonstrated success working as a part of a high‑performing team.
- Strong interpersonal, organizational, and communication (oral Contours' and written) abilities.
- Ability to work collaboratively and independently, as needed and appropriate.
- Proficient computer skills, including familiarity with Google suite and Microsoft Office suite.
- Demonstrated dedication to working with high‑school students.
- Physical demands are in excess of those for sedentary work; must be able to remain on their feet for extended periods, go up and down flights of steps, stoopերազմ; kneel; squat; and lift.
- Routinely uses standard office equipment such as computers, phones, photocopiers, filing cabinets, fax machines, etc.

$55,000.00 – $79,000.00 annually. Starting salary will be determined based on experience, qualifications, and internal equity.
