Join to apply for the Hourly - Academic Tutor GEAR UP role at Brookdale Community College.

Provide academic student support by working one-on-one and in small groups with middle and high school students on specific concepts, e.g., Math, Science, and English Language Arts and skills.

Tutor individual and small groups of students in fundamental and advanced skills and areas of knowledge.

Assist in conducting student support functions.

• Bachelor’s degree required in the field or related field, or, in limited circumstances, the equivalent combination of education and experience from which comparable knowledge and abilities can be acquired.

• Prior tutoring experience with K-12 students desirable.

• Proven ability to work effectively with students of varying ages, cultures, and knowledge bases.
• Proven ability to communicate ideas, principles, and concepts effectively in individual or small group settings.
• Computer literacy skills at an intermediate level, including the ability to utilize Microsoft Office Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and specialized software programs and applications relevant to the learning process (e.g., Learning Management System and ERP).
• Knowledge of information research strategies.
• Strong interpersonal and organizational skills with the ability to develop effective working relationships with students, staff, and faculty.
• Must successfully complete discipline-specific skills test.
• Ability to travel to other sites as needed.
• Fluency in a second language may be required.
