Job Description
WSP is currently initiating a search for a Lead Civil‑Site Designer – Generation Division to join our Power & Energy team in Mount Laurel, NJ. The candidate will be involved in projects with our Power Generation Team and be a part of a growing organization that meets our client’s objectives and solves their challenges.

Responsibilities- You'll help us serve a diverse client base—including Independent Power Producers, Municipal Electric Utilities, Investor‑Owned Utilities, Contractors, and Developers—address their challenges and implement power grid systems of the future. Get experience in a wide range of power plant technologies including biomass, municipal waste, geothermal, hydrogen, fossil fuel, carbon capture, battery energy storage, hydro, and solar. Work on projects for multiple POWER/WSP Divisions (Power Generation, Power Delivery, Facilities, and Federal).
- The position involves drafting and designing opportunities on power generation, renewable energy, and substation projects that include civil‑site development 3D modeling, design, and detailing. Most projects occur within the United States with some opportunities to work on the international market projects.
- Coordinate designs with multidisciplinary teams (civil, mechanical, electrical) and ensure compliance with codes, standards, and best practices.
- Over time the successful candidate will be able to perform site plans, grading, storm water management piped systems and detention basins, wastewater management piped systems and infiltration fields, and erosion control design.
- Mentor junior designers and drafters, offering technical guidance and design oversight.
- Ensure plans adhere to city code, state and federal regulations.
- Experience opportunities can include field visits, coordination with contractors, and interface with permitting officials.
- Work collaboratively with the engineer‑in‑charge and other technical professionals on assigned project phases, segments, checks, and tasks.
- Exercise responsible and ethical decision‑making regarding company funds, resources and conduct, and adhere to WSP’s Code of Conduct and related policies and procedures.
- Perform additional responsibilities as required by business needs.
- High School Diploma.
- Minimum of 11 years of relevant post‑education experience in discipline with prior drafting and design support experience.
- Site development experience, including the ability to create grading plans and details, erosion control design, retaining wall design and site survey coordinate systems.
- Civil‑site development design project experience in any industry.
- AutoCAD Civil3D or Micro Station Open‑Roads (In‑Roads) experience.
- Analytical mindset with an ability to exercise sound judgement in evaluating situations and making decisions.
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills when interacting with others, expressing ideas effectively and professionally to a technical and non‑technical audience.
- Highly proficient self‑leadership with attention to detail, results orientation, and managing multiple priorities in a dynamic work environment.
- Ability to learn new techniques, perform multiple tasks simultaneously, follow instruction, work independently, and comply with company policies.
- Proven track record of upholding workplace safety and ability to abide by WSP’s health, safety and drug/alcohol and harassment policies.
- Ability to work schedules conducive to project‑specific requirements that may extend beyond the typical workweek.
- Occasional travel may be required depending on project‑specific requirements.
- Associate’s or Bachelor’s Degree in a closely related discipline is preferred.
