Safety Engineer, Environmental Compliance
Join T&M Associates as a Roadway Safety Engineer in New Jersey. This full‑time, on‑site role supports New Jersey’s Safety Improvement Programs (BSIP) through crash data analysis, safety planning, and project management aimed at reducing serious and fatal crashes.
Responsibilities- Analyze crash data, develop high‑crash location lists, and recommend countermeasures aligned with FHWA and NJDOT standards.
- Lead Road Safety Audits (RSA/PRSA) and coordinate with internal/external partners to implement safety initiatives.
- Assist in planning, tracking, and delivering safety and Complete Streets projects; provide technical review and support for design, traffic control, and compliance.
- Ensure projects meet standards outlined in HSM, MUTCD, and NJDOT design guidelines.
- Support junior staff, promote inter‑agency collaboration (NJDOT, NJDEP, DHTS), and contribute to public outreach efforts.
- Assist in reporting, streamlining processes, and implementing New Jersey’s Strategic Highway Safety Plan.
- Bachelor’s degree in engineering, planning, or related field is required.
- NJPE, NJPP/AICP and or RSP1/RSP2 preferred.
- Minimum of 1 year of experience, or a Master’s Degree, with safety projects and road safety project delivery, including traffic signal engineering, crash data analysis, and safety program development. Experience with the NJDOT Capital Projects Delivery Process highly desirable.
- Familiarity with FHWA‑proven safety countermeasures, crash reduction factors.
- Experience with the NJDOT Roadway Design Manual, AASHTO guidelines, MUTCD, and Complete Streets policies.
- Knowledge of Highway Safety Manual (HSM) and experience in conducting HSM analysis, including predictive methods, and ISATe tools.
- Strong communication and organizational skills for managing multiple projects simultaneously.
- Ability to collaborate effectively with a wide range of internal and external stakeholders, including NJDOT staff, local agencies, and consultants.
- Experience working for a public agency is a plus.
T&M Associates commends pay transparency and equitable compensation practices in compliance with applicable laws, including the New Jersey Equal Pay Act. The salary range for this position will fall between $62,500 and $85,000.
