Operations Manager
Position Summary
As the Senior Mechanical Engineer and Engineering Manager, you will serve as the technical lead for design execution of projects. You will oversee all project design activities and serve as the primary point of contact for the client on the project. You will also be responsible for the design quality, delivery of contracted scope, and meeting project objectives, requirements, schedules, and budget.
The position also requires the candidate to design mechanical systems, develop equipment and systems specifications, assist with proposals, engage with clients and project execution partners, and, most importantly, work independently.
- Serve as Engineering Project Manager for large capital energy infrastructure projects.
- Supervise and manage assigned engineers on each project, providing technical guidance, training, and support for junior engineers.
- Conduct peer review, technical oversight, and quality control of design team's work products.
- Provide hands‑on engineering project management by consistently reviewing project plans and timelines to ensure projects are on time and on budget. Make adjustments to staffing and resources as needed to meet deadlines and budget constraints.
- Organize and facilitate internal and external client meetings, ensuring that all action items are documented and completed.
- Provide project coordination with all involved in the project; internal, external, subcontractors, etc.
- Work with the VP of the group to respond to client‑issued RFPs. Collaborate with group VP to develop and write bid proposals, contracts, cost estimates, budgets, etc., using the agreed upon methods and standards.
- Establish and maintain excellent client relationships to maintain existing clients and receive referrals for new clients.
- Ensure accurate project accounting, ensuring that project setup, monthly invoicing, and accounts receivables are done on a timely basis and in compliance with accounting protocols.
- Participate in trade conferences, business development activities, and promotion of the Engineering Power and Infrastructure Group's commercial and marketing activities.
- BS in Engineering
- Minimum 15 years professional experience with proven progression in mechanical engineering design, particularly in power, distributive generation, or related field.
- Professional Engineer (PE) licensure required.
- Demonstrated experience in engineering power infrastructure projects, including utility‑scale peaking power, large institution central utility plants (CUP), combined heat and power (CHP), distributed generation, and microgrids.
- Demonstrated knowledge and experience specifying and integrating into engineered systems, industrial frame combustion turbines, natural gas and diesel internal combustion engines, heat recovery equipment, packaged boilers, chillers and heat pumps, cooling equipment, pumps, and balance of plant mechanical equipment is a requirement.
- Knowledge of and experience in engineering, building, and industrial HVAC equipment and systems is a plus.
- Must be knowledgeable of local, state and national code requirements.
- Must have working knowledge of electrical, controls, structural, civil and architectural discipline requirements.
- Knowledge of power plant process, operations and economics.
- Experience and knowledge in energy efficiency improvement techniques.
- Knowledge of and experience with construction requirements, scheduling, trades and OSHA regulations.
- Extensive experience in managing and coordinating multidisciplinary projects.
- Strong working knowledge and utilization of AutoCAD and Revit.
- Must be a good time manager, comfortable with frequent deadlines and transitions.
- Effective at working with other staff members in a fast‑paced environment.
- Must have excellent communication skills to effectively communicate complex ideas, and have strong technical writing and documentation skills, with the ability to prepare presentations and reports.
- Able to read, write, speak, and understand English.
Our headquarters are in Voorhees, NJ. The position can work out of that location or at one of our other locations, which include Philadelphia, New York, and Princeton. This position will also have the ability to have a hybrid schedule.
